In recent times, DJs have played a major role in the field of popular music worldwide. The very first club where a DJ was the star and the center of attention in the eyes of the audience and crowd is situated in the UK; more specifically Manchester. The name of the club was “The Factory”, which opened its doors to public in the year 1978, where local bands performed and attracted a large number of party goers from the indie scene. It was managed by music fans Tony Wilson and Alan Erasmus, who were, at the same time, the owners of the record label called “Factory Records”. Factory Records signed artists of the likes of Joy Division, New Order and Happy Mondays.
The same club was turned into another project, also a nightclub, but this time, the name was changed to The Haçienda (or FAC 51). These two nightclubs are mythical and legendary, at least for anyone who understands a thing or two about the true origins of nightclubbing and the electronic music scene. Not only that, but if you are a music fan who is interested in different genres such as punk, post punk, indie rock and electronica, you may already be familiar with the history of these two landmarks of British culture.
In any case, if you are looking for tips on where to find the best music available out there that can move an educated crowd, then be sure to visit record stores and ask the shopkeeper what’s hot. If you have time to spare, go there, get some coffee and spend 3 or 4 hours browsing through wax records, get dirty and listen to as many records as you can. Only then you will be able to know what’s best for the type of crowd that you wish to perform for.
